Communities across the Borgu region have expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the approval and commencement of the Lagos–Badagry–Ogun–Oyo–Kwara–Niger–Sokoto–Kebbi Superhighway project, describing it as a major step towards revitalizing economic activities in rural communities within Kwara and Niger States.
Speaking in Kali along the Kaiama Road, community leader Bala Ubandoma conveyed his satisfaction with the recent site visit by officials from the Federal Ministry of Works and consultants from TSL Engineering Nigeria Ltd, who conducted a survey of the project’s impact zones. The delegation also included staff from the office of the Federal Controller of Works, Minna.
The affected communities include Kada, Madele, Kusaka, Dongo Lamba, Auna, Kure, Madunguru, Yargu, Shafachi, New Kali (along the Kaiama Road), Yangba, Kwaroin, the Federal College of Wildlife Management Kontagora, Mairigyara, Janyau, Faku, and Kpatachi. Prior to commencing the survey, representatives of TSL Engineering paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Borgu to seek the support and cooperation of the emirate in sensitizing the local population about the project.
Ubandoma noted that the superhighway, which will traverse these agrarian and fishing communities, holds immense potential for improving livelihoods, easing transportation, and boosting trade. He recalled that no significant intervention had been made in the region’s road infrastructure since the Abacha-era Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) rehabilitated the Mokwa–Kainji Road.
He commended the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, and praised Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo, a native of Sokoto State—one of the beneficiary states—for their commitment to delivering vital infrastructure projects.
Ubandoma urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s road infrastructure initiatives rather than engage in uninformed criticism, noting that ongoing projects such as the Kaiama–Kishi Road and the BUA-supported Bode Saadu–Kaiama Road demonstrate a clear commitment to inclusive national development.
He further appealed to the President to re-award the long-abandoned Wawa–Kainji 62-kilometre road project, highlighting the importance of the route to farming communities in Kainji, Kaiama, and Baruten.
According to Ubandoma, the Tinubu administration is showing strong resolve in delivering democracy dividends through impactful infrastructure, especially in rural and underserved regions.
