On Sunday, frustrated youths in Benue took to the streets, protesting against the ongoing violence in the state by blocking the Abuja-Makurdi highway.
Clad in black and brandishing palm fronds and placards with various messages, the demonstrators created a blockade on the busy thoroughfare, halting traffic and calling for urgent measures to end the violence.
Observers from DAILY POST noted that the protesters effectively stopped vehicles from passing, leading to significant congestion and distress among travellers.
This demonstration comes just a day after suspected armed herdsmen carried out a brutal attack on the Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of over 200 individuals.
In response to the growing turmoil, the Benue State Government had previously issued a warning against unlawful gatherings, particularly among youths, urging restraint in light of the rising tensions within affected communities.
Despite these appeals for peace, the demonstrators expressed feelings of abandonment and are demanding decisive security actions and justice for the victims of the recent attacks.
