In a resolute stance against film piracy, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun has issued a stern warning, declaring an uncompromising crackdown on offenders who will face prosecution and imprisonment.

This declaration came during a courtesy visit by a delegation of Nollywood stars, led by Mr Seun Oloketuyi, Founder and Convener of Best of Nollywood (BON), presenting the hosting rights of the 2023 edition of BON Awards to the governor in Osogbo.

Governor Adeleke, in accepting the hosting rights for the 15th edition of BON Awards, emphasized Osun’s commitment to eradicating film piracy.

He declared a war against piracy, ensuring there would be no sanctuary for perpetrators within the state.

Asserting that pirates must not profit from the hard work of filmmakers, Governor Adeleke assured the delegation that there would be no safe haven for piracy and its perpetrators in Osun.

Drawing on his experiences and understanding of the entertainment industry’s impact, he expressed the need for a robust policy.

During the meeting, Governor Adeleke discussed the potential of the entertainment industry in contributing to the state’s development.

Reflecting on conversations with his nephew Davido and son B-Red, he highlighted the need for a solid policy, drawing from his exposure to the industry’s value during his time in the U.S.

Apart from the awards, the BON organizers announced special recognition for Adebayo Salami for his significant contributions to the industry.

Describing him as a foundational figure in Nollywood, Seun Oloketuyi emphasized Salami’s role in inspiring present-day actors and filmmakers.

Acknowledging the potential of the film industry to promote national identity, Oloketuyi urged the government to leverage the entertainment industry fully.

He highlighted how other countries use film as a tool for marketing, emphasizing its potential impact on Nigeria.

In recognition of Adebayo Salami’s enduring influence on Nollywood, the organizers announced a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Salami’s contributions to the industry and his role as a guiding figure for the younger generation were cited as reasons for this special acknowledgment.
