The ceremony, originally scheduled to hold at the Senate Building of the National Assembly Complex, was relocated to the Federal Secretariat Phase 1 Hall, Abuja, due to unforeseen circumstances.

At the event, 10 distinguished practitioners were honoured with the ranks of Senior Counsel of Nigeria (SCN) and Senior Legislative Counsel of Nigeria (SELCON).

The awardees included Chief Dr. Amb. Ebosetale David Aigbefoh, Esq.; Dr. Grace Dafiel; Henry I. Chinkere-Nwogu, Esq.; Mrs. Adetoun Simisola Akwarandu, Esq.; Ahassan Ifzal Mughal, Esq.; Timothy Tersugh Ahua, Esq.; Prince Dr. Ebere Uwama Nwokoro; and Rt. Hon. David Iohermba Chief Finan Ndukwu, Esq., among others.

The Blue Silks rank is conferred pursuant to Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020, under which ALDRAP is incorporated.

The initiative also draws authority from the Regulations and Guidelines issued under Section 19(1) of the National Assembly Service Commission Act, 2014, as well as from the long-standing English legal tradition of maintaining a Register of Legislative Counsel in the United Kingdom Parliament since 1869.

The introduction of the Blue Silks rank is aimed at recognising excellence among non-litigation lawyers in Nigeria, providing a professional distinction comparable to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank.

The initiative marks a significant milestone in promoting professionalism and acknowledging exceptional contributions to legislative drafting and advocacy in the country. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
