The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has urged governments at all levels to take immediate measures to address the hardship Nigerians are facing due to the rising cost of food commodities.
AYCF, a leading youth organization advocating for the welfare and development of Nigerian youth, particularly in the northern region, expressed concern about the critical juncture the prevailing harsh living conditions have reached, leading to escalating frustration and anger among the populace.
“The government must take immediate action to alleviate the brewing tensions and avert impending public unrest,” said AYCF President General Yerima Shettima in a statement.
“The authorities must prioritize the welfare of citizens by working diligently to improve living conditions for all Nigerians. This includes creating job opportunities, enhancing social welfare programs, and providing essential services to the needy.”
Shettima emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive reforms across economic, social, and security sectors to foster an environment conducive to growth, development, and prosperity. He called for a sincere and empathetic government response that addresses national challenges.
“The time for action is now; failure to act could result in uncontrollable public outrage,” Shettima warned. He urged Nigerians to remain calm and united in addressing the challenges and building a better future.
While acknowledging plans for protests, Shettima urged Nigerians to channel their frustration and grievances through peaceful and constructive means.
He emphasized the importance of avoiding violence and chaos, advocating instead for constructive dialogue and engagement with the government to find sustainable solutions.
