In the midst of swirling speculations, the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emphatically refutes any clandestine pact with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to sway the upcoming Supreme Court decision on the Kano governorship election.
In a resounding statement by its chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, the party labels the circulating rumours as baseless and without merit, dispelling any notion of compromising its stance for Governor Yusuf’s victory and subsequent defection to the APC.
Contrary to insinuations, the party firmly denies President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s involvement in covert meetings or interventions to influence Governor Yusuf’s position.
“President Tinubu upholds the rule of law and would never engage in any scheme to undermine justice or support electoral malpractice,” the statement asserts.
Affirming their commitment to pursuing legal recourse, Abbas declares, “We possess concrete and compelling evidence presented at both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court, instilling confidence in our anticipated triumph.”
In response to concerns about potential unrest post-Supreme Court verdict, Abbas dismisses fears of tension in Kano, assuring that the people await the confirmation with optimism.
He accuses the NNPP of attempting to incite violence by agitating youths but guarantees the APC’s dedication to fostering amicable relationships with all ethnic nationalities and maintaining peace in the face of provocation.
This reaction unfolds against a backdrop of heightened political tension in Kano, stemming from the Court of Appeal’s judgment that upheld the Election Tribunal’s ruling, ousting Governor Yusuf and declaring the APC candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, as the rightful winner of the March 18 election.
