A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Adegboyega, has urged the ruling party to address the internal crisis stemming from its recently concluded primaries, calling for fair and equitable treatment of all members.

In a statement issued on Monday, Adegboyega appealed to the party leadership to investigate the grievances of members, particularly those with legitimate complaints, and ensure amicable resolutions in the collective interest of the party rather than for the benefit of individuals seeking to undermine its success.

He further recommended that aggrieved members omitted from the final candidate list submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) be reconsidered in strict adherence to the party’s principles of equal treatment.

Adegboyega emphasised that the fallout from the primaries continues to reverberate nationwide, stressing the urgent need for stakeholder intervention to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

“This is urgently needed to address grievances arising from the primaries and take steps to restore confidence among party faithful ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.

The chieftain lamented that the primaries were conducted in many instances at the “whims and caprices” of certain governors, who dictated outcomes in a manner he described as fundamentally undemocratic.

He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, to investigate allegations of candidate imposition, backdoor consensus arrangements, arbitrary disqualifications, and the substitution of duly elected winners across various states.

Adegboyega also condemned the imposition of unpopular candidates as flagbearers in some states, warning that such actions could prove detrimental to the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.

“Such action might trigger internal disintegration, massive defections, electoral failures and loss of support for APC in the coming general elections,” he opined.

Citing Kwara, Ogun, Ondo, and other states, Adegboyega noted instances where popular candidates and their supporters were removed from the final list submitted to INEC.

The statement follows last week’s protest by governorship aspirants in Kwara State, who decried the governor’s leadership style and called for urgent national intervention.
