Former Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, has criticised Governor Abdullahi Sule for presenting Senator Aliyu Wadada to President Bola Tinubu as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Al-Makura described the move as “an aberration” and “a little too hasty.” He argued that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has yet to release guidelines for candidate selection, making the endorsement a violation of due process.

“At this point in time, when the party has not actually brought out its guidelines for the exercise, and given that quite a number of people are angling for this position, I feel for the governor to take anybody – not even Wadada – to Mr President is a little too hasty,” Al-Makura said.

“It is a violation of due process that this exercise is supposed to ensure.”

While acknowledging that Governor Sule is entitled to a preferred successor, the former governor insisted that the process must follow laid-down procedures. He also noted the absence of proper consultation with critical stakeholders and a lack of unanimous understanding within the state party structure.

Governor Sule had defended his choice, stating that it followed consultations with stakeholders within and outside Nasarawa State. He recently accompanied Wadada – who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Accounts – to the State House in Abuja for a meeting with President Tinubu.
