Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said some individuals are sponsoring insecurity in Nigeria because of the upcoming 2027 general elections.
He, however, expressed optimism that things would normalise in two weeks after the polls.
Mr Akpabio disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja at the inauguration of the 16-floor Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) headquarters.
The building has three towers and can accommodate 3,000 employees.
He said, “Insecurity is increasing because election is coming, because people don’t know what to do again. Immediately after election, two weeks after election, insecurity will stop. The insecurity is being sponsored by people.”
The former Akwa-Ibom State governor, also mocked former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, for dumping the Labour Party, under which he polled third during the 2023 presidential election, behind President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and former Vice-president Atiku Abubakar, of the then Peoples Democratic Party.
He said, “Opposition is in disarray, someone got six million votes and abandoned the party; abandoned the six million votes and went shopping for another platform and they are blaming the ruling party.”
He also urged Nigerians to be patient with the president.
