The African Democratic Congress has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC )of bias for recognising the David Mark-led faction of the party despite a pending court case.

The party, led by its National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, described the action as “premature” and a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

In a communiqué issued after an emergency meeting of its National Working Committee and National Executive Committee in Abuja on Sunday, ADC said INEC’s decision to upload the Mark leadership on its portal questioned the commission’s neutrality.

It warned that the electoral umpire’s action could destabilise the party and embolden “idle politicians” seeking refuge for their ambitions.

The ADC vowed to resist any attempt to hijack its platform, saying, “We will not stand idly by as our party’s legitimacy is undermined.”

The party accused INEC of aligning with politicians who once destabilised their political organisations, insisting that such moves threatened the stability of the nation.

It noted that the crisis echoed divisions during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s era, which it said worsened corruption, insecurity and economic decline.

The ADC confirmed that it had filed a suit at the Federal High Court against INEC and “desperate politicians” to overturn the recognition.

While urging members to remain calm, the party appealed to INEC to exercise restraint and await the court’s verdict before taking further steps on its leadership dispute.
