The Adamawa  Government is set to establish mobile courts for quick dispensation of matters relating to Gender Based Violence (GBV) and other social vices.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Wunfe Anthony said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday in Yola.

Anthony who spoke while reviewing the scorecard of Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri’s administration in the last one year, said women are crucial to national growth and requires support to enable them strive.

“Our mandate as a Ministry is basically about the welfare of women, ensuring they know their rights and live dignified lives.

“The Fintiri administration is emphatic towards promoting the interest of women and girls through the passing of Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP) law and Child Act.

“This has led to establishment of mobile courts for on the spot trial of offenders of Gender Based Violence (GBV)and other social vices, as all our fundamental human rights are enshrined in the law.

“This would empower women to speak up thereby breaking the tradition of ‘surffering in silence’, and protecting the child’s right by abolishing child marriage and child labor,” she said.

Highlighting more of Fintiri’s achievements, she commended the governor for giving women opportunity to serve in his cabinet hence creating gender equality.

The commissioner said, the governor appointed women in various levels of leadership who are productive and have displayed great talent and intellect in their fields of endeavor.

“We have the deputy governor, Chief Justice, Judges, commissioners of information, finance among others, all women serving in various capacities of leadership.

Anthony said the ministry also collaborated with international and local organizations to empower women, on various skills across the 21 local government in the state.

The trades which includes; tailoring, soap making, leather craft, farming, poultry, baking among others, has enabled women become productive, job creators and has improved their economic wellbeing.

Accessing the general performance of the governor, she said the administration has made significant strides in economic growth, attracting new investment and supporting local businesses.

“The governor has not relent but consolidated on the feet achieved in his first term in office and made significant progress in the social economic development of the state.

“From agriculture to manufacturing, the state is experiencing a resurgence of economic activities, creating jobs and opportunity for the citizenry.

“He invested in road construction, introduced new initiatives that improved access to quality education, upgraded healthcare facilities with improved maternal and child health,” she noted.(NAN)
