The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested three armed men allegedly linked to the killing of one of its officers, AbduRauf A. Shariff, during an attempt to foil a criminal operation in Kano metropolis.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said the officer was on official duty around Court Road, Kano, when he encountered a group of suspects engaged in phone snatching and other criminal activities.
“In the process of trying to stop them, the criminals attacked the officer with weapons, inflicting severe injuries which eventually led to his death,” he said.
He added that NSCDC personnel who arrived at the scene promptly arrested three of the suspects along with their weapons, while others escaped from the scene.
According to the NSCDC spokesperson, the arrested suspects are currently in custody, while investigations were ongoing in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
Abdullahi also disclosed that the late officer was taken for medical examination before being confirmed dead and subsequently buried in line with Islamic rites.
He emphasised that the Corps would not relent in its efforts to ensure that all those involved in the killing were brought to justice.
