The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, celebrated Christmas on Thursday with the troops of Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, urging them to remain focused on their mission.
Mr Shaibu delivered this message during a luncheon organised as part of the Christmas festivities. He also encouraged the troops to maintain professionalism in their operational duties.
The army chief reiterated the importance of vigilance, particularly during the festive season.
“I extend warm Christmas wishes to all officers, soldiers, civilian staff, and families of the Nigerian Army. This season calls for reflection and gratitude as we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, emphasising love, sacrifice, compassion, and unity—values that resonate deeply within our army.
“I salute those serving in various theatres during this festive period, whose sacrifices ensure the safety of our nation. Your commitment is greatly appreciated. Under my leadership, I pledge to prioritise professionalism and the welfare of our personnel.
“Our philosophy remains a focused transformation into a resilient force ready to fulfil our constitutional duties. To the families of our soldiers, your love and patience empower our troops. Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed,” he stated.
Mr Shaibu also expressed his gratitude to sister services, security agencies, and the wider communities for their support in maintaining peace and security.
He added, “As we celebrate Christmas, let us embody the essence of the season through love and unity. Let us embrace 2026 with optimism and dedication as we confront emerging challenges and uphold the honour of our service. Remember to celebrate responsibly, maintain security awareness, and honour our fallen heroes.”
