Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally announced his defection to the Accord Party, following his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over the party’s “national crisis.”

In a major political shift for Osun State, Governor Adeleke unveiled the Accord Party as his new political platform on Tuesday evening, as monitored by SaharaReporters. This move comes shortly after the Governor formally relinquished his PDP membership.

Governor Adeleke’s resignation from the PDP was finalized on November 4, 2025, according to a letter addressed to the party’s Ward 2 Chairman, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area.

The letter explicitly cited internal strife as the reason for his immediate withdrawal:

“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the letter stated.

Despite the split, the Governor acknowledged the role the PDP played in his political career, which saw him elected as Senator for Osun West and later as State Governor.

“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party,” he wrote.

The defection confirms earlier reports suggesting Governor Adeleke was poised to move to the Accord Party.
