In an impromptu monitoring and supervision exercise across a few chosen schools in the state, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, the Sokoto state commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, expressed his dissatisfaction with the attitude of teachers as part of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s nine-point smart agenda.

Prof. Ladan was concerned about the irresponsibility of public school teachers, but he was also offended by their lack of dedication and absence.

The commissioner visited several schools, including Government Secondary School (GSS) Amanawa, Junior Secondary School (JSS) Gidan Gara, JSS Bimasa, and GSS Tureta.

Why the Education Commissioner is angry

The commissioner questioned why, during the visit, only three of the twenty-three employees—including GSS Tureta, the principal—were not present.

While at JSS Bimasa, the Commissioner observed low staff and student attendance, which may be a stark reflection of other schools.

The commissioner responded to the development by ordering that the principals of JSS Bimasa and GSS Tureta be questioned about their lack of attendance, careless attitude toward their responsibilities, and inability to guarantee consistent attendance, as reported by Elanza News.

The commissioner stated that only commitment to assigned responsibilities, accountability, and dedication can promote quality education, despite his promise of future effective supervision.

Abubakar Umar Salame, the ministry’s director of administration; Abdulkadir Umar Alkammawa, the director of quality; and Muhammad Sani Usman, the director of quality assurance for the Arabic Board, accompanied Prof. Ladan on the visit.
