The federal government has disbursed N2.086 billion through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to assist students in higher education institutions across the North-West region.
This announcement was made by Mukhtar Lawal-Tsagem, the director of the National Orientation Agency, Katsina State Directorate, during a sensitization program held in Katsina on Tuesday, where he also highlighted the achievements of President Bola Tinubu.
Mr. Lawal-Tsagem revealed that approximately 20,919 students from various higher institutions in the North-West states benefited from this funding initiative. The event, focusing on the milestones achieved in the region, was organized by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
He emphasized the federal government’s commitment to the North-West, noting significant contributions in agriculture and security. “In Kebbi, we supported wheat farmers across 12 local government areas through the NAGAP program, while ginger farmers in Kaduna State received N1.6 billion in assistance. Additionally, the N2 billion Yawuri Water Scheme is among the federal government’s infrastructure projects in the region,” he stated.
The NELFUND program provides interest-free loans to students, enabling them to cover tuition fees and other educational expenses.
Mr. Lawal-Tsagem also pointed out that one of the ministry’s key roles is to inform the public about government programs, activities, and policies, as well as to encourage support and appreciation of these initiatives.
In a related presentation, Adamu Muhammed, a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration at Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, expressed gratitude for the administration’s commendable projects. “I urge the community to foster goodwill with the current government to ensure the region continues to benefit from these initiatives,” Mr. Muhammed concluded.
