On Friday, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, urged Nigerian youths to adopt unity, discipline, and resilience as core values essential for nation-building.

Gen. Musa, represented by AVM Nkem Aguyi, Group Managing Director of Defence Holding Company Ltd, delivered this message during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Abuja Military Barracks Youth Sports Championship.

He emphasized that sports extend beyond mere competition; they are a reflection of character. He noted that every sprint, pass, and cheer demonstrated the profound teamwork and camaraderie present within the barracks. “In this spirit, we discover the strength of our Armed Forces and our nation,” he stated.

The CDS commended all athletes, highlighting that regardless of whether they won trophies, their display of courage, determination, and discipline made them all winners.

He also acknowledged the challenges facing today’s youth, such as insecurity and substance abuse, and affirmed the armed forces’ commitment to supporting programs that empower young people and strengthen communities through positive engagement and mentorship.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the athletes, 15-year-old Nisi Michael thanked the CDS for his support of youth and sports development. He also extended his thanks to parents, cantonment commanders, coaches, and organizers for their guidance and encouragement.

Michael shared that the championship imparted lessons in discipline, teamwork, and resilience that would extend beyond the sports arena. “Whether we took home a trophy or not, we are all champions,” he declared.

Lungi Barracks triumphed as the overall winners, securing gold in football (male category), basketball, and volleyball in both categories.
