In a tragic incident in Benue State, armed individuals suspected to be herders have killed four people and caused significant destruction to properties across multiple locations in the Tombu Council Ward, within the Logo Local Government Area.
The event reportedly occurred on Monday, as detailed by a local community leader, Joseph Anawah. He stated, “At approximately 3:00 PM, suspected Fulani assailants set fire to several abandoned settlements, including Tse Mku in the Tombu Council Ward.”
Anawah further revealed that two individuals lost their lives while working in their farms on the outskirts of the Ayilamo settlement the previous day. The victims were identified as Mr. Kaananfam Nyamikume, a resident of Tse Jigam village, and Mr. Mson from Guma Local Government Area, along with a local medicine vendor.
Additionally, a resident named Mr. Saaondo Mundu Azaye, hailing from Tse Azaye, was also reported killed.
The community leader mentioned that on Tuesday, local residents, including the youth from Ayilamo and nearby areas, conducted a search for those missing and discovered two bodies close to the Tse Uza settlement. However, the other two farmers remain unaccounted for.
Anawah alleged that the attackers have established camps in Tse Ibor, Tse Ukpukuru in Anyibe, and other abandoned settlements within the Mbawien clan of the Tombu Council Ward.
When reached for comment, the spokesperson for the Benue State Command, DSP Udeme Edet, requested time to gather information but did not respond to subsequent calls by the time this report was filed.
