The immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has urged members of the State House of Assembly to fully support the administration of his successor, Governor Usman Ododo.
Bello made the appeal during a meeting with a group of legislators at his Abuja residence on 19 August.
A 29-second video of the gathering has since circulated on social media, drawing attention to the ex-governor’s influence over the state’s political landscape.
The meeting included a newly elected lawmaker from the 16 August by-election.
In the video, Bello was seen addressing the legislators while some of them sat on the floor. He stressed the importance of unity within the Assembly.
“Go and cooperate with the Speaker, other members of the House of Assembly of Kogi State, and be part of those that will support Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in everything that comes to the Assembly,” Bello told them.
His remarks were met with applause from the lawmakers present.
Bello, who left office earlier this year, maintains a strong presence in Kogi politics and is seen as a key backer of Ododo.
The call for loyalty underscores ongoing concerns about political continuity and the balance of power between the executive and legislative arms in the state.
