The Northern Ethnic Youth Groups Assembly (NEYGA) has applauded the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army for their relentless efforts in restoring peace and stability to northern Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Abuja, NEYGA spokesperson Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-Musa said the recent gains in security have allowed farmers to return to their fields after years of fear and displacement.

Before President Bola Tinubu assumed office, many farmers across the region had been unable to access their farmlands due to the threat of kidnapping, robbery, and violent attacks by bandits.

Tinubu, upon taking office, directed security agencies to reduce insecurity to the barest minimum, particularly in farming communities.

Dan-Musa said the coordinated operations of the DSS and the military have dismantled terrorist networks and restored free movement along previously dangerous routes such as the Kaduna-Abuja and Kaduna-Kano highways.

“Our farmers are gradually returning to their farms, our women can now go to markets without fear, and travellers can safely use highways that were once notorious for kidnappings,” he stated.

NEYGA singled out the DSS for praise, citing its intelligence-led approach in embedding operatives within troubled zones, disrupting criminal cells, and facilitating peace talks that have led to ceasefires in volatile states like Zamfara.

The group noted that the recent surrender of armed groups in Zamfara and the relative calm in Katsina are proof of the effectiveness of sustained security operations involving the DSS, military, and community vigilantes.

The improved security climate, they added, has triggered economic revival in agrarian communities, with increased farming activity and the resumption of cross-state trade.

However, NEYGA cautioned that the fight against insecurity is far from over. “This is not yet victory, but it is a clear path to it,” Dan-Musa warned, urging security forces to maintain their momentum.

Reports from other regions, including the Southeast, also suggest a nationwide improvement in security, with a reduction in violent unrest and the enforcement of illegal sit-at-home orders.
