Residents of Jimrawa town in Kauran Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State have staged a fresh protest in Gusau, accusing Governor Dauda Lawal of neglecting the worsening security crisis in their community while holidaying abroad.

The villagers, mostly peasant farmers, have been displaced from their homes for nearly two years due to persistent attacks by armed bandits.

In a statement signed unbehalf of the residents, Muhammed Ibrahim Jimrawa, said “Our farmlands, now fully occupied by the criminals, remain inaccessible even in the middle of the rainy season – a crucial period for agricultural activities.

“This is our second demonstration in the state capital within weeks.

” During the first, we received assurances from the governor’s spokesperson, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, that swift measures would be taken to restore peace and enable their safe return.”

However, nothing has been done since that promise, and repeated attempts to get an update were met with silence. We were left shocked when, according to him, Kaura revealed that the governor was on holiday in London.

He said “The revelation has fuelled public anger, with protesters accusing Lawal of gross insensitivity and abandoning his duties while thousands of citizens remain displaced and at risk.

“We are suffering here, sleeping in fear, while he is relaxing abroad,” he said.

He argue that the incident reflects a broader pattern of disconnect between the Zamfara State government and its people. They point to the administration’s failure to prioritise security, rehabilitation, and the welfare of displaced communities.

Jimrawa warned that without decisive action, displacement in rural Zamfara could worsen, threatening both livelihoods and food security in the region.
