ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The President also nominated two commissioners for the NERC: Mr. Abubakar Yusuf, Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun, Commissioner of Finance and Management Services.

The nominations are subject to Senate confirmation. However, to avoid a leadership vacuum in the critical regulatory agency, President Tinubu directed that Engr. Ramat assume office in an acting capacity pending his screening by the Senate.

“President Tinubu urged the new appointees to use their knowledge and experience to discharge their functions and work assiduously to advance the administration’s power sector vision,” according to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy).

Engr. Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator with a PhD in Strategic Management, among other qualifications. With his expertise and experience, he is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Nigeria’s electricity sector.

The President’s directive for Engr. Ramat to assume office in an acting capacity ensures continuity and stability in the agency, allowing for a seamless transition and minimizing disruptions to the sector.
