The Arewa Renaissance Group has commended Major General Malik, the Secretary of the Correctional Service, Immigration, Fire, and Civil Defence Board, for his transparent approach to recruitment, signalling a shift towards fairness in Nigeria’s public service enlistment.

Zuwaira Usman Abba, the group’s coordinator, made the remarks after receiving a petition from youths in Baruten and Kaiama local government areas in Kwara State.

The petition highlighted longstanding marginalisation in recruitment for services under the board’s oversight.

She said “For years, residents of Kwara North’s Kaiama and Baruten have alleged that enlistment opportunities were disproportionately allocated to Kwara Central and parts of Kwara South, often due to high-level connections.

” This, they argue, violates Nigeria’s federal character principle, which promotes equitable representation.

Abba urged General Malik to maintain an inclusive recruitment process to enhance credibility.

She also called for an intelligence task force to tackle job racketeering, a persistent issue undermining fair employment practices.
