Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has rejected the directive issued by Governor Monday Okpebholo, which requires him to obtain security clearance prior to visiting Edo State.

In his first public response to this directive, Obi reaffirmed his intention to travel to Edo State whenever he chooses.

During an interview with reporters at Christ The King College (CKC) in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Thursday, Obi urged Governor Okpebholo to focus on supporting public institutions rather than issuing threats.

Obi was at CKC to present a donation of N50 million on behalf of alumni to assist the college’s management in their commendable initiatives.

When addressing the media about the Governor’s warning, Obi dismissed the threat, stating, “I’m accustomed to receiving threats. I will go to Edo anytime I want.”

The former governor of Anambra State was welcomed at the college by His Grace, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, the Archbishop of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, along with the management and students.

Obi praised his alma mater for the “phenomenal work” being carried out by its administration and noted that several of his colleagues had contributed to support the college.

In their speeches, the Archbishop lauded Obi for his commitment to fostering a new Nigeria.
