The Patriotic Nigeria Youth Forum (PNYF) has expressed profound grief over the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, the Awujale of Ijebuland, who died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91.

The revered monarch’s 65-year reign, beginning April 2, 1960, left an indelible mark on Ijebuland, fostering peace, stability, and progress.

Under Oba Adetona’s leadership, Ijebuland saw significant advancements in education, infrastructure, and commerce.

His visionary policies transformed the region into a prosperous hub, elevating the standard of living for his people and establishing Ijebuland as a key player among Nigerian states.

A staunch guardian of Ijebu culture, the Awujale elevated the Ojude Oba festival into a globally celebrated event, showcasing the vibrant heritage of the Ijebu people.

His efforts instilled pride and unity among Ijebus at home and in the diaspora, cementing his legacy as a cultural icon.

“Oba Adetona was a father figure whose humility, integrity, and wisdom inspired us all,” said Comr. Olamide Odumosu, PNYF National Coordinator.

“His counsel was sought by leaders across Nigeria, and his legacy will continue to guide future generations.”

The PNYF extended condolences to the Royal Family, the Council of Chiefs, the Ogun State government, and Ijebuland’s global community. They prayed for the monarch’s soul to find eternal rest and for his legacy to endure.

Oba Adetona’s death has sparked tributes nationwide, with leaders like President Bola Tinubu describing him as a symbol of integrity and cultural pride. His reign, one of Nigeria’s longest, leaves a void in Yorubaland’s
