Power Rotation: Prof. Nwaokobia Slams Political Elites, Calls for True Federalism Over Regional Rhetoric

Renowned public affairs analyst and convener of the CountryFirst Movement, Prof. Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr., has strongly criticized the political class over what he describes as the “hypocrisy and deceit” surrounding the North/South rotation of power in Nigeria.

In a strongly worded statement, Prof. Nwaokobia argued that poverty, hunger, and underdevelopment have done more harm to Nigerians than issues of ethnicity, religion, or regional power-sharing. He questioned the moral ground of those who pushed for a Muslim-Muslim ticket but now speak of equity and justice.

“The current conversation around power rotation is nothing but a euphemism for North West and South West dominance,” he said. “Where is the South East, the North Central, the North East, and the South South in this so-called zoning formula?”

Nwaokobia noted that despite decades of rotating power between regions, the common Nigerian has not experienced any tangible benefits. According to him, the elite merely recycle power among themselves while the masses remain impoverished and neglected.

He dismissed power rotation as a distraction from the real issues plaguing the nation, advocating instead for true fiscal federalism, resource control, devolution of powers, and a leadership that is both responsive and responsible.

“Let’s stop the tommyrot. What Nigeria needs is not a rotation of failure, but a revolution of ideas and good governance,” he declared.
