The director general of the Confederation of All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups,Professor Kailani, has said that former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari was an honest man but trapped by the wrong people throughout his eight years in power.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Kailani accused a powerful cabal of hijacking Buhari’s government from the onset.
According to him, the group poisoned Buhari early in his presidency, forcing him to spend nearly six months in London for treatment.
“From the start of his leadership, he was caged by the cabal. They formed a separate government inside his own,” he said.
Kailani, who claimed to have fought alongside Buhari since 2002, said many loyal supporters who sacrificed for Buhari’s rise to power were abandoned once he became president.
“We thought we would be made ministers, DGs, MDs, but they hijacked everything,” he lamented.
He described Buhari as a man with zero tolerance for corruption but noted that he became isolated from reality.
“I saw him five times while he was president. Each time, I told him Nigerians were suffering, but he seemed unable to act.”
Kailani said attempts to help the masses through government programmes were blocked by the cabal, even when Buhari showed interest.
Despite his frustrations, Kailani said he has forgiven Buhari, insisting it was not the late president’s fault.
He called on current leaders to avoid repeating the same mistakes, warning that history will not be kind to those who fail the people.
