The Zamfara Education Forum (ZEF) has praised former Governor and current Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle, for his exceptional efforts in revitalising the state’s education sector despite limited financial resources.

In a statement released on Friday, the Chairman of the Forum, Yusuf Ibrahim Maradun, highlighted Matawalle’s achievements under the 2017/2018 intervention grant, noting the construction of 900 classrooms across Zamfara within two years.

He said the education sector experienced a major turnaround under Matawalle’s leadership, despite receiving significantly less in federal allocations compared to the current administration.

“Dr Matawalle changed the face of education in Zamfara with very little at his disposal. It’s a testament to vision and dedication,” Maradun stated.

The Forum also revealed that in addition to the new classrooms, 375 dilapidated classrooms were renovated, and three Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) offices were rehabilitated.

Maradun noted that the renovation of LGEA offices provided staff with more conducive working environments, improving efficiency and morale across the board.

He drew a sharp comparison with the present government, which he said receives over ₦19 billion in allocation but has failed to match Matawalle’s visible impact.

“Had Matawalle received this much funding, Zamfara’s education system would be a model for the country,” he said.

With the 2027 political season drawing near, the Forum called on Zamfara citizens to recognise leadership that delivers results.

“We urge the people to protect their votes and support Matawalle. His return would bring hope and progress back to Zamfara,” the statement concluded.
