The South-South wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu as its exclusive candidate for the 2027 presidential elections, as announced on Saturday.

The stakeholders also backed the governors of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, and Edo as the party’s sole nominees for their respective gubernatorial elections.

Julius Ihonvbere, the House of Representatives leader, proposed the motion for the communiqué’s adoption, supported by Adams Oshiomhole.

Victor Giadom, the APC’s national vice chairman for the South-South, conveyed that the decision to support Tinubu stemmed from his impactful leadership and visionary agenda, including the establishment of the South-South Development Commission and the ongoing Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.

He acknowledged the extensive development initiatives in the region and expressed confidence in Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s leadership, commending his role in uniting the South-South and endorsing Tinubu’s renewed Hope Agenda.

Giadom also extended an invitation to Governors Duoye Diri of Bayelsa and Siminialayi Fubara of Rivers to consider joining the APC.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was praised for his contributions to the region and support for Tinubu’s developmental plans.

Ali Dalori, the acting national chairman of the APC, recognised the leadership in the zone for their efforts in organising the meeting and affirmed that the Tinubu administration seeks to maintain a multi-party system in Nigeria.

Senate President Akpabio asserted that the APC would soon dominate the region, with indications that Governors Fubara and Diri might soon join the party.

Governor Okpebholo remarked on the gradual improvement in governance within the South-South, thanks to Tinubu’s support. The meeting was attended by prominent political figures, including Akpabio and several governors.
