FEDCOOP Rallies Members For Inclusive Development Walk

The Federal Civil Service Staff of Nigeria Cooperative Societies Union (FEDCOOP) is mobilising its members nationwide to participate in a commemorative walk in Abuja to mark the 2025 International Day of Cooperatives.

The walk, scheduled for Saturday, 5 July, will begin at the Unity Fountain and proceed through selected routes in the city centre.

In a statement signed by the President of FEDCOOP, Barrister Onjefu Obe, members from all ministries, departments, and agencies are expected to join the march in a show of solidarity and commitment to cooperative values.

This year’s celebration is themed “Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World”, aligning with global efforts to promote equity and sustainability through grassroots cooperation.

Barrister Obe said the walk is part of FEDCOOP’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the contributions of cooperatives to national development and inclusive economic growth.

The International Day of Cooperatives, first observed in 1923, is marked every first Saturday of July and is recognised by the International Cooperative Alliance.

FEDCOOP serves as the umbrella body for over 500 primary cooperative societies within Nigeria’s federal civil service, championing the welfare and interests of thousands of civil servants.

Organisers say the walk will also highlight the power of cooperative unity in addressing modern challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change.
