In a significant turn of events, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Monday, during which Sen. Samuel Anyanwu was reinstated as the party’s National Secretary. After the meeting, PDP’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, announced that the next NEC gathering is scheduled for July 23.

Damagum shared insights on the meeting’s agenda, stating, “This was a focused session aimed solely at addressing our engagement with INEC concerning the national secretary.” He expressed a unified stance among party members, reinforcing that Sen. Anyanwu will continue in his role and the convention matters will be discussed in the upcoming NEC.

Contrary to the predictions of critics anticipating discord, Damagum asserted that the PDP possesses the necessary mechanisms to address internal challenges effectively. “Our governors and NWC members are united, which you won’t see reflected in contradictory press statements,” he remarked.

He urged party members to cease undermining the party’s reputation, emphasising the need to promote its strengths instead. The plan had initially been to hold an expanded caucus meeting, but it was decided to focus on the 100th NEC meeting.

Sen. Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, expressed confidence in the PDP’s resilience, commending the NWC for their unity and urging vigilance against detractors. Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State referred to the successful meeting as a ‘miracle of PDP,’ asserting that despite distractions from defections, the party remains steadfast.
