Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has emphasised that the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, cannot serve as both a leader and an observer.

During a press interaction at his residence, Senator Kalu urged Benjamin Kalu to declare his intention to run for governor if that is his ambition.

“I’ve advised my brother against running in tandem with Benjamin Kalu. If he wants to run, he must publicly announce it so we can gear up for a successful campaign. If he isn’t running, he should return to contest his House of Representatives seat. He cannot hold both positions; that is my firm view.”

When discussing his absence from a recent event organised by the Deputy Speaker, Kalu rejected any notion of a political divide between them, affirming their strong bond while calling for clarity regarding Benjamin Kalu’s future political plans.

“I am always in touch with him in Abuja; he visits whenever possible. There are no issues between us. He simply needs to clarify his position,” he stated.

Kalu also referenced his recent dialogue with Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, noting that Otti exemplifies a model for Aba’s infrastructural development. He recounted his tenure as governor, focusing on using Aba’s resources to enhance growth in other areas.

“Aba and Enyimba City are renowned throughout Africa, starting with ensuring the safety of our communities. I established the Bakassi Boys to collaborate with law enforcement for security, countering claims of inaction during my tenure. I laid the foundation for the development of Aba and Umuahia, including Ohambele.”

Describing his meeting with Governor Otti as private, Kalu asserted his status as the longest-serving governor of Abia State. “My discussions with him centre on the future of the state. I am establishing five factories in Igbere, which will commence operations within a year, necessitating peace and unity in the area.”

“I am deeply committed to the APC and will actively support the party’s initiatives. To suspend me, you would need to approach the NEC. We must work together to ensure APC’s triumph both locally and nationally. Politics is not solely about attracting crowds; it is about meaningful contributions. With 40 years in business and a proven track record, I am focused on real impact,” he concluded.
