After years of absence, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has finally been posted back to Toto Local Government Area (LGA) in Nasarawa State. The significant development has been met with widespread enthusiasm and commendation from stakeholders, traditional leaders, and community Which seen as a milestone that symbolises the return of peace, unity, and renewed governmental support in the region.

Mohammed Musa Maikaya, the Ciroman of Toto, expressed heartfelt joy over the deployment of NYSC members to the area. He recalled how Toto had been without these young national volunteers due to recurring communal conflicts in the past.

“We are thankful that we can now celebrate in harmony, regardless of our ethnic or religious differences,” Dr. Maikaya shared during a community cultural festival. “It is refreshing to witness people singing and dancing together, united in peace, which hasn’t happened for years.”

The positive shift in the social climate was especially evident during the Toto Multicultural Festival, an event that showcased the area’s diversity and unity. Organised by the Toto Multicultural Association, the celebration was designed to reinforce peaceful coexistence and encourage mutual respect among various ethnic groups in the locality.

Dr. Maikaya commended the Nasarawa State Government, led by Governor Abdullahi Sule, for laying the groundwork for this transformation through strategic peace-building initiatives. He further praised the support of the Toto LGA Chairman, Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya, for being a key driver in restoring order and encouraging civic participation.

According to Dr. Maikaya, past attempts to hold similar cultural events had often been disrupted by unscrupulous elements, making gatherings unsafe. However, he expressed satisfaction that current efforts were finally bearing fruit.

“This festival is a symbol of the unity we have long desired. We are hopeful that such initiatives will continue, contributing to the lasting development and prosperity of Toto Local Government Area,” he stated.

In a separate address, Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya, Chairman of Toto LGA, highlighted the developmental strides made under his leadership. Within just six months in office, he claimed to have launched several impactful projects aimed at improving the lives of local residents. Which include infrastructural upgrades, educational reforms, and agricultural support schemes.

Recognising the importance of strategic partnerships, Yahaya also announced plans to invite the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State for an on-the-ground assessment of the ongoing projects in the region.

The Chairman also made a passionate call for community collaboration and further support from higher levels of government. He identified security, education, and agriculture as top priorities for continued development in Toto LGA.
