Security operatives have successfully arrested a wanted kidnapper at the Hajj camp in Abuja.

A security source at the camp confirmed the arrest to our correspondent on Sunday. The suspect was apprehended during the screening of pilgrims preparing for their journey to Saudi Arabia.

The individual, identified as Yahaya Zango, is reportedly a resident of Paikon-Kore in the Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The source stated that security agencies had issued a wanted notice for him following his alleged involvement in a series of kidnappings.

It was noted that the suspect presented his passport along with other members of the Muslim group from Abuja who were set to embark on this year’s Hajj.

“It was this afternoon during the screening at the Hajj camp at the airport that DSS operatives apprehended him and took him away,” the source disclosed.

A senior official from the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, who preferred to remain unnamed, also verified the suspect’s arrest.

Our correspondent has gathered that the suspect had been on the run since security forces initiated a manhunt for him.

When reached via text message, SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, stated, “You mentioned the DSS, but I am the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command.”

At the time of this report, there had been no official reaction from the DSS regarding the incident.
