The Coalition of Good Governance has called on Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal to cease blaming his predecessor,Dr Bello Matawalle for the state’s financial and administrative challenges and focus on delivering effective governance.

In a statement on Thursday, the coalition’s spokesperson, Muhammed Ibrahim Usman, criticised Lawal for repeatedly highlighting inherited debts on national television.

Lawal, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, claimed his administration is grappling with liabilities from unremitted payments to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), unpaid staff salaries, and student examination fees, attributing these to alleged financial mismanagement by former Governor Bello Matawalle.

“Government is a continuum,” Usman said.

“No state in Nigeria is free of debt, yet other governors are working to improve lives without public complaints.

“Lawal should face the challenge or resign if he cannot deliver.”

The coalition accused Lawal of incompetence, dismissing his recent donation of vehicles to security agencies as “eye service.”

They urged him to prioritise improving living conditions and ensuring security for Zamfara residents, rather than deflecting blame.
