Armed assailants have attacked the Government Day Secondary School in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, resulting in one fatality and the abduction of three individuals.

The incident occurred on Saturday night. Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Zamfara police, confirmed the details to TheCable on Sunday, noting that the attack took place around 10 p.m. when no students were present on the premises.

According to Abubakar, the assailants accessed the school through the staff quarters, breached the fence, and entered the compound, where they fatally shot Malam Kabir Abdullah, a retired teacher, who attempted to resist their efforts to abduct him. Among the kidnapped are three females, including the wife of the deceased.

“Our police personnel are currently on-site to ensure safety and are actively working to secure the release of the victims,” Abubakar stated.

This incident highlights the escalating security challenges in Zamfara State and the increasing anxiety among communities in northern Nigeria. The region has witnessed a surge in attacks and kidnappings in recent months.

Notably, on March 7, 2024, over 200 students were kidnapped during an assault on Government Secondary School Kuriga in Chikun Local Government Area. Just days later, on March 12, around 61 individuals were abducted from Buda community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Earlier in February, six people lost their lives during a bandit attack on Kwasam community in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna, where Zakariya Markus, a former director of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was also abducted.
