The group operating under the auspices of the Good Governance Support Network (GGSN) has advised Hon. Umar Barde, a four-term Member of the House of Representatives, to set aside his ambition for the House of Representatives and support Comrade Waziri instead.
Both Barde and Yakubu Waziri are contesting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chikun/Kajuru House of Representatives ticket.
In a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday by its National Coordinator, Gabriel Sani, the group stated that this course of action would be in the interest of equity, justice, and fairness.
It is worth noting that the Chikun/Kajuru House of Representatives member, Ekene Adams, from the Labour Party, passed away on 16th July 2024 after a brief illness while still in office.
ELANZA NEWS reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to set a date for a fresh election to replace the late House of Representatives member, Ekene Adams.
The group asserted that stepping down and supporting Comrade Waziri would not only benefit the APC but also ensure that the seat lost to the Labour Party in 2023 is regained, thereby allowing the implementation of his manifesto aimed at consolidating Governor Uba Sani’s exemplary leadership for the benefit of all.
“It would be advisable for the party’s victory if the ticket were conceded to Chikun, sending a message that would overshadow the opposition PDP,” Sani advised.
He encouraged Barde, regarded as a political godfather, to lend his support to a younger candidate for the party’s ticket in the forthcoming supplementary election.
According to him, this would not only unify the APC but also ensure Barde’s continued relevance as a political godfather.
He emphasised that it would be statesman-like for Barde to serve as a kingmaker rather than seeking the throne himself.
“Barde should be limited to being a kingmaker and not the king himself,” Sani argued, adding that “the scriptures say there is a time for everything that happens on earth.”
End.
