The Jakande Progressive Movement (JPM) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to honor the legacy of the late former Lagos State Governor, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, by sustaining his housing and free education initiatives.

In a statement on New Year’s Day, the Northern Chapter Coordinator of JPM, Comrade Salihu Dantata Mahmud, commended the president for his recent initiative to establish a credit guarantee company aimed at alleviating the economic hardships facing Nigerians.

Mahmud described the move as a step in the right direction but urged Tinubu to build on the enduring achievements of Jakande, particularly his housing programs for the masses and free education policy.

“President Tinubu should continue the housing initiatives championed by Jakande, which have had a lasting impact on Lagos and its residents,” Mahmud said.

“Likewise, the free education policy, which Jakande pioneered, should be extended at the federal level to alleviate the challenges faced by Nigerian families.”

Mahmud also advised the president to reconsider his proposed tax reform, recommending that town hall meetings and consultations be held across the six geopolitical zones to foster a more inclusive and effective policy approach.

The JPM, which has been active since the lifetime of its founder, Alhaji Dr. Lateef Jakande, reiterated its appeal for the immortalization of Jakande’s contributions to Nigeria’s housing and education sectors.

In addition, the movement suggested that one of Jakande’s children be appointed to a key position within the current administration as a tribute to the late former governor, who also served as the first executive governor of Lagos State and Minister of Works and Housing.
