The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Northeast Chapter, has strongly criticized former Speaker Yakubu Dogara, accusing him of hypocrisy and opportunism following his recent show of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja and signed by the Northeast Coordinator, Comrade Abubakar Isah Waziri, the group described Dogara’s actions as a desperate bid to regain political relevance.
“Yakubu Dogara’s latest political somersault, shamelessly praising President Tinubu after viciously attacking him before the election, is nothing but an attempt to secure political favors,” Waziri said.
The CNG accused Dogara of betraying Northern interests during his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives, claiming he failed to contribute meaningfully to his constituency or the region.
“It is laughable that Dogara now parades himself as a champion of Northern interests. His record is one of betrayal and division,” the statement read, citing his promotion of a “Middle Belt agenda” that allegedly fueled ethno-religious divisions and weakened Northern unity.
The group further alleged that Dogara’s newfound support for Tinubu was motivated by personal ambition, speculating that he might be angling for a political appointment or positioning himself as a running mate for the 2027 elections.
“Dogara’s opportunism knows no bounds, and his desperation is an embarrassment to the North,” Waziri said, adding that Northerners deserve genuine, selfless leaders instead of “failed politicians who exploit the region’s struggles for personal gain.”
The CNG urged Northerners to reject Dogara’s “deceitful campaign” and demand better leadership for the region.
