Troops from Sector 1 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) successfully repelled a well-coordinated assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants on a military installation in Darak, Cameroon, resulting in the neutralization of 10 terrorists.

This information was disclosed by Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer at MNJTF Headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad, in a statement released on Thursday.

The attack occurred in the early hours of December 18, when ISWAP operatives launched an offensive on the Darak military base from multiple fronts.

Osoba reported that during an intense firefight, MNJTF troops quickly engaged the attackers, successfully eliminating six militants and compelling others to retreat with various gunshot injuries.

Regrettably, five soldiers sustained injuries in the confrontation and are currently receiving medical care, he added.

Following the initial engagement, a subsequent operation was executed to intercept the fleeing militants along their potential regrouping route near Mazogo, a village situated between Zamba and Djibirilli.

“Troops neutralized four additional terrorists as they approached the ambush site and seized a cache of food items linked to the militants. This brings the total number of terrorists neutralized during the operation to 10,” Osoba noted.

He reaffirmed the MNJTF’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorist threats in the Lake Chad Basin and ensuring regional security.
