A political crisis appears to be unfolding in Kano State as Governor Abba Yusuf finds himself at odds with his political mentor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. Reports indicate that Yusuf has resisted Kwankwaso’s directive to dismiss two high-ranking officials within the government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has learned that the officials in question are Baba Dantiye, the Commissioner for Information, and Dr. Abdullahi Bichi, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). Sources suggest that Kwankwaso is dissatisfied with Bichi’s reluctance to heed his instructions regarding the execution of certain official responsibilities.

Furthermore, it has been reported that the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is seeking to replace Dantiye with a social media influencer whom he believes would be more effective in managing the state’s governmental image.

Insiders close to Governor Yusuf have indicated that he prefers to engage Kwankwaso in direct conversation about these matters rather than comply with his demands. Additionally, a group advocating for Yusuf, named “Abba Tsaya Da Kafarka” (translated as “Abba, Wake Up and Assert Yourself”), has emerged, emphasizing the need for the governor to establish his independence.

Members of this group assert that Kwankwaso was instrumental in selecting many of the political appointees within the administration, including the commissioners. Recent discussions among NNPP members in the National Assembly have urged Yusuf to assert his autonomy more forcefully.

In a related development, Alhaji Hamisu Dumgurawa, the NNPP chairman in Kano State, has announced the suspension of both the SSG and Alhaji Muhammad Doggon, the Commissioner for Transport, citing alleged activities against the party’s interests.

When approached for comment, Kwankwaso expressed support for the party chairman’s decisions, stating his commitment to party loyalty and refraining from further commentary on the matter. “I will not say anything more since the party chairman has already addressed it,” he remarked. (NAN)
