The Action Peoples Party (APP) has achieved a remarkable victory by winning 22 out of the 23 Chairmanship seats in the recent Local Government Elections held in Rivers State on Saturday.

Justice Adolphus Enebeli, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), characterized the elections as transparent and fair. He announced that the elected candidates obtained a two-thirds majority in their respective wards across all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) within the state.

Enebeli mentioned that results from 19 wards in the Etche LGA are still being compiled, and the outcomes for the 319 councilorship positions across the 23 LGAs will be disclosed in due time.

He noted that elections took place across all 6,866 units in 319 wards, with participation from 18 of the 19 registered political parties. “The elections concluded at 3 p.m. and saw a notable voter turnout, with many individuals braving the rain to exercise their right to vote,” he stated.

Enebeli praised both the political parties and the community for their commitment to facilitating a seamless electoral process. He officially recognized the candidates who received the highest votes as the duly elected Chairmen for their respective LGAs.

The successful candidates include Vincent Obu (Abua/Odual), Chibudom Ezu (Ahoada-East), Iyekor Ikporo (Ahoada-West), Mrs. Tonye Briggs-Oniyide (Akuku-Toru), Lazarus Nteogwuile (Andoni), and Dr. Sule Amachree (Asari-Toru).

Additional winners include Dame Anengi Barasua (Bonny), Dr. Harry Agiriye (Degema), Chief Brain Gokpa (Eleme), David Omereji (Emohua), Monday Dumiye (Gokana), and Isreal Abosi (Ikwerre).

The remaining elected officials include Enyiada Cookey-Gam (Opobo/Nkoro), Gift Okere (Oyibo), Ezebunwo Ichemati (Port Harcourt), and Matthew Dike (Tai).

The announcement of the results was observed by representatives from the 18 political parties, members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and various civil society organizations, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
