Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), has on Saturday conducted a peaceful local government elections.

ELANZANEWS correspondent in Makurdi who went round some polling stations informed that the conduct of the local government elections were peaceful and orderly.

In most of the polling stations visited the electoral materials arrived late.

It was discovered that the electoral materials arrived at about 2:pm in some polling stations when some electorates had waited, got tired and left.

One of the presiding officers who volunteered to speak to NATIONAL ACCORD noted that they did not collect the materials on time but as soon as they got them they had to rush to their various polling stations.

It was equally gathered that there was poor turn up in some areas during the conduct of the local government elections in the state.

Our checks have revealed that the election was majorly between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition party the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as other political parties appeared not to make appreciable impact.

The BSIEC Chairman, Terlumun Tombowua had assured the people of the state of peaceful conduct of the local government elections.

While monitoring the election the BSIEC Chairman, Terlumum Tombowua together with Members of the Forum of Chairmen State Independent Electoral Commission in Nigeria visited parts of Guma and Makurdi  and also visited Ortese Camp of Internally Displaced persons.

Addressing journalists at LGEA Primary School Daudu, the  BSIEC Chairman Barrister  Tombowua expressed satisfaction with the turnout, which he said was massive and unprecedented.

Responding to questions, the Chairman said voting was decentralised to polling units across the state with adequate security and materials for electorates to exercise their franchise without molestation.

Leader Forum of Chairmen State Independent Electoral Commission, Member Ogbe said they were in the State in Solidarity with BSIEC and to monitor the election and make the recommendations.

Ogbe noted with satisfaction the turnout of voters, arrival of materials,the security arrangement and thanked BSIEC Chairman Barrister Terlumun for the Job well done.

Some of the polling units visited by BSIEC Chairman and a team of election observers include LGEA Primary School Wurukum populary known as Suswam Thank You,Tilley Gyado College North Bank Makurdi, Mbajiku Agan Toll Gate, LGEA Primary School Ortese and RCM Primary School Daudu, while Electoral Officers where seen carrying out their lawful duties.
