The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the Initiative for Conciliation and Rights Protection (ICRP) has urged the Nigerian government to prioritize the welfare of security forces, educators, and other government employees to improve national stability and citizen well-being.

In a message addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, the coalition emphasized the importance of providing competitive compensation, enhanced healthcare access, and continuous professional development for the police, military, and civil defense personnel.

“The welfare of our security forces is directly linked to national security. Adequate compensation and support for their physical and mental well-being can significantly reduce corruption and enhance their effectiveness in protecting our citizens,” the coalition stated.

According to Hasan Bala Esq, PhD, a prominent member of the coalition, improving security personnel’s well-being will also help build public trust.

“By addressing the financial and health challenges faced by our security forces, the government can foster a secure environment that benefits all Nigerians,” he said.

The coalition also called for urgent reforms in the educational sector, particularly in addressing the welfare of academic staff and resolving prolonged strikes.

“Investing in the welfare of our educators is essential for driving sustainable development in Nigeria,” said N.W. Geoffrey Esq, another member of the coalition.

In addition to these recommendations, the coalition highlighted the need for the government to harness Nigeria’s natural resources and promote vocational training to improve living standards.

They further urged the implementation of social safety net programs to support vulnerable populations and create economic opportunities for the nation’s youth.

“Social safety nets and job creation initiatives are vital to reducing poverty and ensuring that every Nigerian has the opportunity to thrive,” Bala emphasized.

The coalition concluded by stressing the critical role of Nigerian security agencies in protecting citizens’ rights and promoting inclusivity.

“Security agencies must uphold the rule of law and ensure the protection of minority rights to build a peaceful and united Nigeria,” the group said.

Their proposals aim to enhance Nigeria’s democracy by improving welfare and fostering a secure, inclusive, and prosperous society for all citizens.
