In a significant operation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 33 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud, commonly referred to as “yahoo boys,” in Rivers State.

According to EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the arrests were made during a covert operation targeting notable hideouts in the Iwofe and Ogboro neighborhoods of Port Harcourt. This action was prompted by reliable intelligence regarding the suspects’ alleged involvement in fraudulent online activities.

The raid yielded a substantial amount of incriminating evidence, including numerous mobile phones, laptops, counterfeit U.S. dollars, and phony stamps from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Additionally, the operation uncovered fake Customs stamps, airport clearance documentation, and stamps from courier services like DHL and FedEx, along with two vehicles.

Oyewale confirmed that the suspects are set to face legal proceedings once the investigative process is completed, emphasizing the EFCC’s commitment to combating financial crimes in the region.
