The Police Command in Kaduna State, said its operatives have detained two notorious gunrunners and bandits’ informants in Kaduna.
The command’s spokesperson ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Kaduna.
Hassan also confirmed the foiling of a kidnapping attempt and the two victims were rescued.
He said , “On Aug 14, at about 1800 hours, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit successfully intercepted two male suspects in possession of a fabricated AK-47 rifle at Madaci village, Zaria.”
Hassan identified  the gunrunners as Abulaziz Habibu 25,  and Nuhu Thomas 25, both residents of Dogon Dawa, Birnin Gwari Government Area (LGA), of Kaduna state.
He said the suspects confessed to being involved in the illicit trade of arms, supplying weapons to notorious bandits operating in the Zaria area.
He said, “Their confessions have provided crucial leads, and they are currently cooperating with the police in ongoing investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending their accomplices.”
Hassan also disclosed that on the same date, at about 0800 hours, the DPO of Tafa Division, acting on a credible information received from a reliable source, led a surveillance team to Gidan Abeh village, Kagarko LGA.
He said that while there, they successfully apprehended  Abubakar Yahuza, a 36-year-old male resident of Gidan Abeh village.
He explained that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to running errands and serving as an informant for the kidnappers who reportedly hibernate within the Gidan Dogo forest.
Hassan also disclosed that on Aug 18, about 6:30 hrs, officers of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) stationed in Kuriga, responded swiftly to gunfire heard on the outskirts of the village.
“Upon arrival, they encountered two armed men on motorcycles attempting to abduct two farmers.
“A brief exchange of gunfire ensued, forcing the bandits to flee and abandon their captives.
“The rescued victims suffered head injuries inflicted by the assailants and were treated at the Kuriga Primary Health Care center. They have since been discharged, “he said.
Hassan said the  Commissioner of Police, Mr Audu  Dabigi, commended the officers for their exemplary work .
He also  urged the public to continue supporting the police by providing credible information to help them carry out their duties effectively in the fight against crime.(NAN)
