Residents of Iyekhei quarters, Auchi, Edo State, have called on the federal, state, and local governments to address the erosion problem in their community.

They also appealed to National Assembly and House of Assembly members from the area to intervene by helping them reach the appropriate authorities.

Several houses in Iyekhei quarters have been submerged after days of heavy rainfall.

“We are appealing to the federal and state governments to urgently intervene,” the residents said.

This is Mallam Qasim Street in Utsokwili village, Iyekhei quarters of Auchi in Edo North.

Living in this community has become a nightmare, as many residents have abandoned their homes for safety reasons.

The gully erosion has worsened recently due to several days of rainfall, likely exacerbated by global warming.

The situation puts the area at high risk, as the erosion continues to expand daily.

One of the residents, Lucky Idowu, spoke to journalists and said that more houses will collapse in the next few days.

While calling on the government to intervene urgently, Idowu said some residents are hospitalized.
