Maleria Consortium in collaboration with and Jigawa state government has concluded arrangements to commence the distribution of 3 million Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Mosquitoes Nets (LLITMN) in the state.
Speaking while fielding question from newsmen, the Director Public Health, Jigawa state , Dr Mahmood said, the Nets were already transported from the central store in Dutse capital to various store accross the 27 local government area of the state.
He explained that all critical stakeholders have been involved including adhoc staffs, health workers, traditional leaders, civil societies, media and religious group for the success of the exercise.
According to him beside the mosquito nets there was also over 6 million dosage of Seasonal Maleria Chemo-Prevention (SPAQ) for children between the 6 – 56 month were also delivered for onward distribution to political wards and health facilities before commencement of the distribution.
The distribution of Seasonal Maleria Chemo Prevention (SPAQ) will commence on 24th July while the distribution f LLITMN will be flagg off on the first Week of August next month ” Dr Mahmood stated.
Also speaking during a media parly in preparation for the exercise, the Campaign Coordinator of Maleria Consortium for the distribution of the Mosquito Nets, Dr Rilwan Anka Noted that, , this time around the distribution exercise came with various innovation which included distribution of anti- Maleria drugs, and collection of old mosquitoes nets for replacement.
” Collection of old one is not criteria or compulsary for collecting the new one, but it was introduced to help in environmental protection by collecting and disposing it in a professional manner”
” Therefore Journalists has a role to play for public enlightenment and mobilization to ensure people comply and corporate with all process of collecting and using the net for achieving the desire goals.
Dr Anka added that, the ultimate goals is to provide people with mosquitoes nets, build children immunity against Maleria to reduce the prevalence of Maleria cases which kills children, pregnant woman more than any other disease in the state.
