The Nigeria Army has called for closer collaboration with stakeholders in North-East, to contain the menace of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Brig.-Gen. Abubakar Haruna, the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Nigerian Army, stated this during the Counter IEDs awareness seminar, on Friday in Maiduguri.

Haruna, who is also the Commander Sector 1, Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), said the exercise was designed to address threats posed by IEDs, which remained the primary weapon employed by the insurgents.

He said the exercise was necessary towards reawakening the security consciousness of the people to deny the degraded terrorists freedom of action, adding that it is pertinent to leave no stone unturned in defeating the menace.

The commander said the insurgents had resorted to desperate use of vehicle and  human borne IEDs on soft targets.

Haruna said that stakeholder contributions in the seminar would not only enhance the security landscape in Maiduguri metropolis but also inspire confidence and trust among the populace.

The GOC urged the participants to make meaningful contributions and step down the messages to other members of the community.

He also commended the Commander 47 Engineer Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Abdul-Razak Kazeem for the initiative.

Highlights of the event include paper presentations by resource persons on IEDs materials, making and networking, bomb recognition and suicide bombing.

The exercise was attended by army personnel, police and representatives of Borno State Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), trade unions and associations. (NAN
