Supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara have brought down Chief Nyesom Wike’s statue at the secretariat of Obio/Akpor local government area in Rivers State.
Elanza News reports that in another local government, Omuma, a clash between supporters of the governor and the minister resulted in one fatality and several injuries.
Wike, the former governor of the state and a native of Obio/Akpor, had served two terms as the chairman of the LGA.
Fubara’s supporters took action at the Obio/Akpor LGA secretariat to prevent the former chairman from returning to his office after the tenure of the 23 LGA chairmen expired.
The incident in Eberi, the headquarters of Omuma LGA, occurred as supporters of both political leaders vied for control of the council.
An anonymous source told Elanza News that at least ten individuals sustained serious injuries during the clash.
